In an ongoing commitment to training its employees and providing opportunities for continued education and career development, Sasser Restoration recently sent Austin Nalley, Restoration Superintendent and Kevin Philipps, Restoration Technician, to a 3-day intensive Asbestos Inspector Training course. This 24-hour accredited course uses the EPA curriculum, Inspecting Buildings for Asbestos. This course teaches procedures for inspecting asbestos containing materials, collecting samples, and writing inspection reports.
During this training, Nalley and Philipps learned core concepts including the background, characteristics and health effects of asbestos, a deeper understanding of building systems, the functions, qualifications and roles of the asbestos inspector, the process for inspecting for friable and non-friable asbestos-containing material (ACM) and how to write inspection reports.
ACMs are often found in insulation, floor tiles, ceiling tiles, adhesives, roofing materials, wallboards, joint compounds, textured paints and HVAC systems in buildings that were constructed before the 1980s. As a result of water damage, fire damage or other catastrophic disasters in these buildings, ACMs can become disturbed and release asbestos containing fibers into the air.
Once these fibers have been released, it’s crucial for restoration teams to have certified asbestos inspectors so that asbestos-related risks can be identified and mitigated immediately. With a technical understanding of asbestos and its effects, Nalley and Philipps are capable of handling asbestos-related challenges effectively, safely and in compliance with all regulations.
Sasser Restoration remains committed to providing quality, service and responsiveness to all clients and is proud to have certified Asbestos Inspectors on our team who can bring this immense value to our clients.
